Description/Back Story

1

Condo

The first hole at WWGC has several interesting features.  The tee is situated behind a yawning ravine which requires concentration to span with the tee shot.  The right side of the hole is a forest while the left side is Out Of Bounds.

Also situated on the left are the Condo Buildings which seem to house some of the meanest little old ladies in Erie County

Who hasn’t hooked a fresh Pro V1 into the back yard or perhaps off the vinyl siding only to have Mrs Magoo come out on to the deck in her night gown bellowing “What are you stupid?...Can’t you read?...No Trespassing!

WWGC Pete Zeniwicz aka "The Zen" stated..."you should mention the story about the little old lady threatening to call the State Police on.......you guessed it.....Mark Noce, as he tried to take a step onto her property to retrieve Wildauer's ball. He was also told....."I see you playing here all the time, you shouldn't be hitting balls off the golf course. You think you'd get better. :-)"

2

Buck

The second hole at WWGC is situated down in the woods and natures critters periodically can be seen there.  While the geese tend to hang out on Hole 3, wild turkey can be seen on occasion as well as deer.  It was about two years ago the The Raptor come rolling up to the green and noted a handsome six point buck standing behind the green looking around like he owned the joint…it was awesome!

3

Glider

Hole #3 is a shortish par 5 with a number of pitfalls for the average player.  However, it was during the 2008 golf season when a property owner roped off his small sliver of land which merged on to the golf course…

He proceeded to put out a porch glider and some smelly garbage cans to punctuate his position.  It was in a nutshell…embarrassing…

4

Bastard

This is the hole that everyone loves to hate.  It is probably the best example of a risk/reward hole in Erie County and many of the big hitters go for the green from the tee box which is roughly 260 yards away. However, for the average player is is a bastard…pure hell…

Leper Messiah

(Submitted By Ray Kallner)

Ray stated on 8/2/11

"I would change #4 to “Leper Messiah” because of the perils most people find believing they can hit it from the tee and realizing their faith is based on a diseased sense of self-worth."

5

Make Hay

This short par 4 is only 280 yards in length and has a generous landing area which cants towards the putting surface.  The Raptor has seen many tee shots by others reach the putting surface setting up a chance at eagle and on one occasion a Hole In One was scored there by Roster Regular…Bill Reichert  And...it should be noted that The Raptor scored eagle 2's twice in 2010 using a pitching wedge approach...the first deuce occurring on 10/23/10 and the second two weeks later!...that was HOT!

It’s imperative to score a three there as the rest of the golf course is a little stingy in giving up a good score

6

McFly

The sixth hole at WWGC is situated at the back end of the property and is in effect a dirt spit on the back of the mountain.

Situated to the right of the hole are some fairly large home sites including the home of Lew McClain, Jr. aka McFly

7

Freedom

It is on the weekends that hole #7 earns is nickname.  The Roster generally starts play at around 7:30 on Saturdays and Sundays and by the time the first groups reach the seventh tee the guns start blazing over yonder at The Gun Club.  The Raptor refers to the gun shots as “The Endearing Sound Of Freedom”

8

Taint

Hole #8 is a lengthy downhill par 4 of roughly 425 yards from the blue tees and it is split by a drainage ditch which is marginally playable and which the members refer to as the Taint

9

Desiree_Leah_Courtney

OK the player has reached the end of the outward holes and cold adult beverages are only 400 yards away.  WWGC is blessed with perhaps the finest group of servers in Erie County including Desiree who has been dishing out the Brewskies since the beginning

10

Evolution

Who hasn’t been concentrating over a tee shot on Hole # 10 when the ball dispenser up at The Evolution Academy loads up another basket with that distinctive clanking sound

11

Doe

This is perhaps WWGC’s most serene setting with the tee box area situated on a rolling incline whist the putting surface is nestled in a bowl of heather, mounding and gorse.  On many occasins numerous turkey can be spotted in the wetlands as well as matronly Doe…protecting their fawns from getting too close to the players…it is astounding to drive by these critters while they graze on tall grasses…not a care in the world.

12

Raptor’s Ravine

The first season at WWGC was a learning experience for The Raptor as time after time The Raptor dumped golf ball after golf ball into the yawning ravine which cuts through this par 5 of 525 yards from the black tees.

After a well struck tee shot, the average player is faced with a carry of about 175 yards to get across the Ravine.  This is no easy task and the lay up becomes the shot of choice for many.

To get across the ditch is the goal and when conditions are firm and fast it’s possible but the conditions are generally on the soft side…so…mark me down for a six!

13

Turkey Trot

Hole #13 is another short par 4 of 356 yards from the blue tees.  The drive is executed across the extension of The Raptors Ravine and situated on the landing area are a pair of fairway bunkers which periodically serve as play areas for large flocks of turkeys who seem to enjoy walking around in the sand leaving footprints as the evidence

14

Crapper

Hole 14 is a par three of 184 yards from the blue tees which features a large putting surface which contains a false front which can repel a weak approach.  Par is a definite possibility here and if the player gets flummoxed, he can take a drive over to the rest area next to the putting surface to “make a deposit”… a word of caution….watch out for snakes…

15

Vortex

This par 5 of 536 yards from the blue tees is a sight to behold especially in the evening when shadows cross the fairway in delicate patterns. While the fairway has a generous landing area there are twin “votices” to the right and left which can gobble up an errant drive.  The vortex on the right is especially nasty and as a result, the turf care staff has allowed the heather to grow out in order to hold up tee shots from going into the hazard

16

Coaster

Hole 15 and 16 are serviced by a massive wrought iron “Two-Lane Bridge” which spans The Raptor’s Ravine,,,part III.  This bridge has a wooden slat surface to accommodate the cart traffic and when the carts cross the bridge, the sound they make is similar to the sound the roller coaster makes at Waldameer

Wittman's Nob

(Submitted By Bill Reichert)

Bill stated on 8/2/11...

"I would change #16 to “Wittman's Nob" since Jack was always up on the right hill”

17

Grace

As the golfer prepares to head home from a true test, he is faced with a 398 yard par four which is considered one of the finest at WWGC.  The tee shot is executed from a hollow and if not struck with authority the player could find himself in deep do-do.

The right side of the hole is framed by a creek bed which gobbles up a lot of wayward drives and out in the field beyond the creek bed there sits a large cross which provides grace to the player as he drives by

17v2

Hombre

(Submitted By Ray Kallner)

Ray stated on 8/2/11...

"I would change #17 to “Hombre” because of the prairie grass on the hill and the gun fight you’re trying to win coming in."

18

Road

Hole #18 at WWGC is an uphill/downhill 411 yard dogleg which is perhaps one of the hardest par 4’s in Erie County.

The putting surface sits atop a slight rise and is fronted by a pair of deep sand bunkers.  Due to it’s narrow footprint, approach shots tend to gravitate to the back portion of the putting surface and the cart path system and access road to the right side of the putting surface are reminiscent of the world famous “Road Hole” at St. Andrews in Scotland
